Kaminey

The so-called dark phenomenon that vishal bharadwaj creates, is only restricted to the lack of light in shooting the scenes! Kaminey is anything but dark conceptually, in fact like the cliché goes, happy endings give you a hope to incessantly fight your life’s battles. Thing that shines through brightly is the fact that Shahid is the best when he does a subdued, earthy character. And both the Shahids in the flick were just that ! The moment he tries to act stylish, akshay-kumar like and funky – he looks uncomfortable. The beauty is that he looks all of these when he’s cast in just the opposite shade. Guddu and Charlie take the laurels away. Sweety (Priyanka Chopra) does complete justice to her part, the loud, gutsy, marathi girl who’s hopelessly in love ! Mikhail (Charlie’s ally) was a pleasant (though tiny!) surprise.
What’s irritating in this movie, along with the other ones of current era – is the fact that they manage to snipe the best songs out of the movie and place them right after ‘the end’ ! In the hustle-bustle of the exit and half screen eaten-up by the names of the technical directors and spot boys, the best song of the movie is assassinated. In kaminey, they do it with the lilting ‘pehli baar mohabbat’!
Kaminey gets 7.5 out of 10, from me !
