Millionaire DevD in Dilli6

That was my weekend folks! 3 great movies in 2 days. Yes, I used the word great for all three. But obviously greatness can be given levels and surely operated upon ! Nothing’s perfect you see.
Dev D
Dev D is one hundred percent better dealth with this time. The loser and arrogant protagonist wakes up and smells the coffee in the new version of Devdas. He does not die a miserable death and gives the darkest, evilest people to turn around. Abhay Deol has lived through the movie, paro (maahi)and chanda(kalki) have given fantastic performances, as if they were what they were. Cinematography is..well let me simplify what Iam saying, the camera angles, scenes, and the shooting style literally talk to you ! No wonder Danny Boyle’s lending of his camera and inputs has reaped such a delectable fruit !

Dev Dhillon spoilt brat of a sugar mill owner was born with truckloads of luck, he acts as an ass but still manages to score, drinks alcohol day in day out with scoops of dope, doesn’t fall ill or spit blood (!) at all, triggers road rage under influence but none of the 7 people get killed, duped and deceived and left penniless, but the phone booth starts gushing out coins the moment he touches it, runs into just the right people to save his soul towards the end ! Brilliant music score and pace of the film. Adult content can make it awkward for you to watch if mummy papa sitting on your side seats. It’s a 2009 movie with an invisible tagline - sex, drugs and rock n’roll !
Dev D gets 8 out of 10 from me.

Slumdog Millionaire

This one has a marvelous plot, lots of slums and a happy ending. Ingredients for Oscar? Who would have thought ?!!!
Jamal Malik had always been a less enterprising, softie slumkid, with a tiger of an elder brother Salim. Having tigers at home can probably mean high security from baddies, but they can bite you quite a few times in bad humor. So that’s what’s happening. Jamal is sitting on the hot seat for his love Latika, not to give her a couple of millions but because he knew “Kaun banega crorepati” is her favorite TV show so she would be watching! Anyhow, he happened to answer all the questions (5 to be specific!) simply because they were related to his life somehow. 5 incidents got him 2 crores – is the feeling that I got at the end of the movie! How could a slumdog answer the rest of 25 questions of various difficulty levels?! Obviously difficult to pack them off in a 2 and a half hour movie, but still the feeling of incompleteness lingers on.
Every character in the movie has played their parts well. Oscar winning performances?! Who would have thought?!!!
Slumdog Millionaire get 6 out of 10 from me.

Dilli 6

This film is like a beautiful travelogue, and the host of the show takes you through the entire city. Better still, a travel reality show it is ! Welcome to dilli 6, we shall not be touring any other part of delhi at all, it is just going to be chandni chowk with pincode 110006 !
Roshan is visiting delhi from America. His granny pined to touch the motherland before she said goodbye to life. Though Waheeda Rehman the granny didn’t even come close to dying in the entire film. She was alright, and totally self-content after reaching her dilli 6. Whatever was happening with or to the poor grandson was the last item on her priority list. Anyway, Roshan encounters multiple impressionable characters during his visit, namely masakalli the pigeon, kala Bandar the monkey man, bittu the pretty thing from the neighbourhood, Ali baig the bachelor snooker champion of the locality, the cop who hated him.
Rakesh Omprakash Mehra could not deliver as ace an item as rang de basanti but dilli 6 is definitely passable. It is colorful, has a social message, brilliant music score – the trademark of ROMP movies.
Downsides, the movie is slow, doesn’t give sufficient space to any actor at all and has a documentary feel.
Dilli 6 gets 6 out of 10 from me.
